To answer the question about themes, if the theme isn’t compatible with blocks, it won’t be compatible with FSE. The theme would have to built from scratch. It is harder to convert a theme than it is to make a new one. That was the answer I got.
Except that Instagram and various social media embeddings will not work. Unless you purchase a plugin.

I have been using divi, pretty much for that theme builder functionality. And sadly the mobile performance sucks for divi, its got 1 MB of css and js. Hopefully having template editor with gutenberg will be great.

Guess WP is trying to catch up with the Elementor success… I wonder if they’re gonna trying just by compete fairly with new functionality and features or they’re gonna play dirty by creating issues fo compatibility with the elementor community.
Is it going to kill builders like Divi Elementor Beaver? If the block builder is native to WordPress, the loading page speed insight should improve a lot, shouldn’t it?
Does Gutenberg allow you to make visual design tweaks to mobile that’s independent of the desktop version like how elementor can? It’s been a while since I messed around with Gutenberg and that was one of my pain points.
I am currently using gutenberg on a kadence child theme cannot stand those page builders that slow down your site very happy with gutenberg
When you say “full site editing” I think of something like Wix. Coming from a design background (PageMaker/InDesign/Photoshop) I use Wix to prototype web designs before creating them in WP (or Wix). With full drag and drop it couldn’t be easier to design a site in a few minutes (other downsides aside) from a blank page. I have not used Elementor but it doesn’t quite have that functionality, does it? So, is that where WP is heading with this?

Recently I made a big step backward, instead of using Elementor I just used Astra child theme with custom made html templates. It works and is very fast.
